Giving

“Giving is an act of worship and obedience through the giving of our tithes and offerings”

About Giving

God is so generous! And so we value generosity as an act of worship through the giving of our tithes and offerings. When we invest in God’s Kingdom, we have the opportunity for eternal impact. Tithing is an act of worship and obedience, where we give back to God the first 10% of what He has given us. Beyond tithing, offerings allow us to give over and above as an expression of our love and devotion. As we say, “We use our time, talents, and treasure to serve God, the church, and our community,” recognizing that God never expected Christians to keep all the money they earn. By giving generously, we honor God and participate in His work, trusting in His promise to bless and provide.

  • Giving is the act of offering our financial resources to God through tithes and offerings, recognizing that everything we have comes from Him. Tithing specifically refers to giving the first 10% of our income back to God as an act of worship and obedience, while offerings are additional gifts that go beyond the tithe.

Malachi 3:10 - "'Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,' says the Lord Almighty, 'and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.'"

  • We don't want something from you, we want something for you. We give because it is an act of worship that honors God and expresses our gratitude for His provision. By investing in God’s Kingdom through tithes and offerings, we have the opportunity to participate in eternal impact and trust in God’s promise to bless and provide for us.

Romans 8:23-24: "For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. Yet God, in his grace, freely makes us right in his sight. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins."

  • We give by setting aside the first 10% of our income as a tithe and bringing it to the church as a sign of obedience. Additionally, we offer gifts beyond the tithe as a freewill offering, giving generously to support God’s work, His church, and the community, trusting in His provision.

FAQ’s on Giving

  • Tithing is the practice of giving the first 10% of your income to God as a sign of worship and obedience (Leviticus 27:30). Offerings, on the other hand, are additional gifts given beyond the tithe and are a reflection of our love, devotion, and willingness to support God’s work (2 Corinthians 9:6).

  • Tithing is rooted in Old Testament law, but Jesus affirmed the practice in the New Testament, emphasizing the importance of giving with a pure heart (Matthew 23:23). The New Testament also encourages generous and cheerful giving as a way to honor God and meet the needs of others (2 Corinthians 9:7).

  • God doesn’t want giving to be a burden; instead, it’s an act of trust and worship. Start with what you can give and ask God to help you grow in generosity (2 Corinthians 8:12). As you take steps of faith, God promises to bless and provide for you (Luke 6:38).

  • The biblical principle of tithing directs us to bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, which represents the local church (Malachi 3:10). Offerings given to other ministries or charities are an additional way to give generously, but the tithe is traditionally set aside for God’s house.

  • While the Bible doesn’t specify gross or net, the principle of first fruits suggests that we give the first and best of what we receive (Proverbs 3:9). Many choose to tithe on their gross income as an expression of putting God first in all they earn, but tithing is all about your heart.

  • Even while managing debt, tithing reflects our trust in God’s provision and faithfulness. The Bible encourages us to give from what we have, not out of guilt but out of faith and joy (2 Corinthians 9:7). Tithing is an act of putting God first, and He promises to bless those who honor Him (Malachi 3:10).
